Information
The HAAM mentoring program is designed to support Master / PhD students and early-career researchers, to strengthen our community by encouraging dialogue, knowledge sharing and support. The program is based on voluntary engagement and seeks to foster mutual learning, scientific and personal exchange and professional growth. (It is by no means meant to replace a Master / PhD supervisor, nor to provide guidance on the specific content of the doctoral project.)
All mentor-mentee pairings are voluntary and have no supervisory or hierarchical links. Where possible, pairings would aim to bring together people from different institutes to encourage broader exchange. Pairings will be facilitated through an online ‘speed-networking’ format.
What are the benefits?
For mentees, the program offers support on topics such as - Career directions in academia and beyond - Project and time management (especially during the PhD) - Networking and professional visibility - Advice on grant possibilities and postdoctoral applications - Work-life balance and self-confidence
For the mentors, the program provides: - Valuable experience in mentoring and guiding students - Opportunities to reflect on and improve PhD student supervision - Meaningful professional exchange and mutual enrichment
How does the program work?
The mentoring program includes - Regular one-to-one meetings between mentors and mentees for a commitment period of 1 year (mentor and mentee mutually agree on the meeting frequency in advance) - Two to three themed discussion circles or group workshops for all members responding to participants’ needs (for example, career panel discussions, application for grants,…) - At the end of each cycle, all participants (mentors and mentees) will receive a certificate of participation
